Abstract
The project aims to reconstruct the mechanisms which enabled the transfer of the Mesopotamian cuneiform culture to the west during the Late Bronze Age (1500-1200 BC), the cognitive and social processes that played a role during this transfer, and the impact the use of the script had on local cultures. This will be achieved by a dual approach: a. The reconstruction of the school curriculum in Syria and Anatolia on the basis of the textual material. b. The evaluation of these data with the help of theoretical models developed in the Social Sciences with regard to orality, literacy and cognition.
