Abstract
Historicism has dominated both the theory and practice of the humanites for more than two centuries by now. The question then arises whether historicism will be with us forever or whether a theory and practice of the humanities can be conceived of that will move us 'beyond historicism'. This is the question to be addressed in this research project.
