Abstract
Dutch culture became, in the period 1750-1840, for the first time increasingly and profoundly influenced by the culture of the German lands, in all fields of the humanities (philosophy, literature, 'arts'). Up to now the causes and mechanisms involved in this process have remained mostly unclear. We propose to investigate, in three projects, the channels through which the German culture became disseminated: magazines, societies, and the theatre. A fourth researcher (post-doc) will synthesize these results, completing this new cultural picture with an own investigation into the world of authors and publishers.
