Abstract

`Jets' are high-speed (relativistic) powerful flows of matter which are observed to move away from black holes, contrary to naive expectations. Jets from nearby black holes in binary systems are a key to understanding the processes occuring in the more distant and slowly-changing supermassive black holes in the centres of galaxies, whose evolution has strongly influenced the evolution of the Universe.
